New Orleans-based singer/songwriter, Kirkland Green has been performing since baptism. From central Louisiana, Kirkland grew up singing in the church. With a background in musical theatre, and a propensity for telling narratives that elicit raw emotion, he began to create his own melodic stories.
From the church to Frenchman Street, Kirkland utilizes the style of influential Black musicians well-versed in Gospel, Soul, Jazz, and R&B to create his own Neo-Soul world.
“Music is a tool designed to make people feel.” He’s often been seen as the front-man for funk band, KG and the Analog Machine at dive joints like Twelve Mile Limit and The Domino in addition to Frenchman’s own 30/90, BMC. However, nothing compares to opening up for DJ Logic and Friends at Tipitina’s or making his 2025 Jazz Fest and Bayou Boogaloo Debuts. You can also spot Kirkland singing bluesy gospel harmonies with The Asylum Chorus.
As the YAP Theatre Teacher for the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine, and Creative Director for Mess Arts, Kirkland focuses on the importance of providing arts education to children ages 4-12. In this position, he realizes and capitalizes on the importance of nurturing young artists to ensure they have the tools and space to grow. Consequently, they are able to creatively occupy spaces in the beautiful city of New Orleans, which thrives as a result of its music and history.
He recently founded and serves as the Executive Director of “City Sounds” a pop-up concert series designed to showcase artists around the city of New Orleans.
